About Tennis 4 Teens
It’s tennis, your way!
Info for teens
Tennis4Teens is a program designed by teens, for teens. It’s fun, social, non-competitive, best of all you, as the participant, get to determine how, and what you play!
Each week your session will consist of some on court activities (determined by you) as well as the chance to have fun off court. Sessions typically run for 1 to 1.5 hours. Open to players 12-17 years of age and of all abilities this is a great chance to let off some steam, get active and socialise with friends.
Each venue has a program facilitator that can help you with equipment (if you don’t have your own or forget it), ideas for on and off court activities, who will introduce you to other participants and of course answer any other questions you may have.
So sign up for a session today, or rally your friends. We look forward to welcoming you at a venue soon!
Info for Clubs
Last year Tennis Victoria were successful in gaining funding through VicHealth to develop a program that encourages youth aged between 12-17 years to be active in a non-competitive/social environment, known as Tennis 4 Teens.
Run as a 6-8 week program, during the school term, the program is designed by teens, for teens. As such, the following core principles apply:
- Youth have a “say” in the activities conducted in a session
- Social element pre and/or post on court play
- Flexible i.e. drop in/out/Pay As You Go
- 1 – 1.5 hours per session (including all social activities)
- Active Facilitator
- Use of an online platform to sign participants up
As long as the programs core values are maintained each venue is able to adapt the on and off court offerings, as required, to ensure it meets the needs of its participants. The majority of participants to date have said all they want to do is “just have a hit” and socialize with friends. Tennis 4 Teens is designed to carve out a specific time in a club’s schedule that says it’s OK for Teens to do just that.
Having a facilitator means that participants have someone to support them and guide them in their activity choice while providing peace of mind for parents that their children will be supervised whilst at the club. The facilitator does not need to be a coach.
To support your club in the roll out of this program we provide you with the following:
- Local Area marketing support
- Program delivery support such as financial support for the facilitator, access to online platform for registration and on and off court activity resources
- Grant support – tailored support based on your program’s needs.
Info for Facilitators
Have a passion for seeing more kids on court? Are you fun, easy going and happy to help? Then maybe you could facilitate the Tennis 4 Teens program at your club?
You don’t have to be a coach to facilitate the program either, just someone who is able to co-ordinate and support the teens with whatever it is they need. Tennis Victoria will also provide you with access to support materials (both for on and off court activities) and promotional material (including a facilitator shirt so you stand out at the club).
